Southeast Asian bronze rain drum

These drums originate from the ancient Dong Son culture of Northern Vietnam, dating back to around 600 BCE.

The flat top surface typically features a central starburst motif representing the sun, often encircled by geometric patterns, birds, and small 3d frog figures. In regional cosmology, the hollow bronze resonance mimicked thunder, used in rituals to summon frogs and rain to secure successful harvests.
